American Horticultural Society's
2006 Gala "America's Garden Celebration"

Alexandria, VA – July 3, 2006.

The American Horticultural Society’s 13th Annual Gala, “America’s Garden Celebration,” hosted by the Friends of River Farm, will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2006 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at River Farm in Alexandria, Virginia.

James van Sweden will serve as this year’s honorary chair. Mr. van Sweden, in partnership with Wolfgang Oehme, is responsible for a revolution in landscape design known as the “New American Garden” style. Their philosophy incorporates an environmentally friendly approach that reflects the beauty of the natural landscape.

The Gala will include dinner with music, an open bar, a live auction, and a silent auction. In addition, guests will have the chance to preview some of the hottest new plants for spring 2007 in River Farm’s picturesque gardens as the AHS hosts the Garden Centers of America’s annual “Fashion in Bloom” event. Also featured will be the work of artist-photographer Amy Lamb.

All proceeds from the Gala benefit River Farm, one of George Washington’s original farms on the Potomac River, and the AHS’s national educational programs. Advance reservations only. Tables for 10 are available. Dress is black tie. For more information about the Gala, please contact Trish Gibson at (703) 768-5700 ext. 114 or tgibson@ahs.org.
