Green Garage®Debuts at the
2006 Philadelphia Flower Show

Alexandria, VA – February 22, 2006.

The American Horticultural Society’s Green Garage®, a gardening model that emphasizes efficient and earth-friendly practices, will debut as an educational exhibit at this year's Philadelphia Flower Show from March 5-12, 2006. The AHS’s Green Garage® exhibit supports this year’s Flower Show theme, “Enchanted Spring...A Tribute to Mother Nature” by relaying information about composting, recycling, reducing air and noise pollution, and increasing awareness of native plants and biodiversity.

The display is designed to be both a visually pleasing exhibit and a learning station. “The exhibit will show people how they can apply these ecologically sound principles to their own yards,” says AHS Landscape Architect Ann English. Earth-friendly garden tools and products will be on display and AHS staff members will be on hand to discuss the concepts of the Green Garage® and answer questions.

The designed landscape around the Green Garage® will feature exciting, top-performing plants and new introductions, including plants from the Athens SelectTM program, GoldfischTM geraniums, and boxwoods from Saunders Brothers Nursery of Piney River, Virginia. The plants chosen for the exhibit are grouped by cultural requirements—another Green Garage® concept. Plants for wetland conditions and plants for dry, sunny sites are among the groupings that will be represented.

For more information about the Green Garage® exhibit, please contact Viveka Neveln at (703) 768-5700 ext. 120 or vneveln@ahs.org. Images are available on request.
